“…And I got dibs on that painting, Eddie. So don’t go getting no funny ideas.”
The Riddler tried to nod, but it was rather difficult considering Harley currently had a fistful of his collar in her hands. “Fine. That’s fine.” He lied. “You take The Crying Clown by Darius and I take Sunset’s Song. It’s not a problem.”
Harley smiled. It wasn’t one of her nicer ones. “Sure,” she drawled. “Just like the last time, huh? And the time before that? I ain’t stupid, ya know.”
“Of course not,” Eddie replied smoothly. “What happened at Gotham Towers was a simple misunderstanding. I thought that you wanted me to have the contents of that safe; I thought you said you were going to hit another apartment. I’m sorry, I simply misheard you, my dear.”
Harley’s smile grew wider. More Joker than Harley Quinn, and for the first time since he’d known her, the Prince of Puzzlers started to become ever so slightly nervous about being in her presence. Perhaps he’d been pushing his luck too far. Still, it wasn’t his fault that Harley kept choosing the same targets as him. As coincidences went, it’d stopped being even remotely humorous a long time ago.
Harley pulled him closer, their bodies touching; the light in her eyes not quite her own. Eddie was suddenly very aware of the fact he given his henchman the evening off…and that Harley hadn’t. He found himself almost wishing that Batman would show up.
“Ya see, Riddler,” Harley began before snapping her mouth shut, her eyes widening in shock; the decidedly homicidal glint in her eyes vanishing as if it had never existed. Eddie remembered how to breathe.
Seconds ticked by.
“Um. Eddie?”
“Yes, Harley?” He squeaked.
“Do ya mind getting little Mr Happy under control? I’m tryin’ to scare you here.”
