New Scientist / BBC MSM.  It's like The Day After Tomorrow on slow speed and with better dialogue, except you can't switch it off or walk away.  I don't know, you can recycle as much as humanly possible, use public transport, use energy saving lightbubs, etc, etc.  It doesn't make a bit of difference.

Sometimes I think it would be easier to go into denial about the whole thing.  Pretend that it's just scare mongering and that climate change isn't going to royally screw us all.  Pretend that's fine that hundreds, if not thousands, of species of wildlife are going to be wiped off the face of the planet.  Just pick up a copy of NOW! magazine and read about Jade Goody and the like...Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.  Meh.

Sorry, I'm hating the human race more than usual today.

It. Is. Scary.

I really do not understand how more people in positions of power (the US president for example) are not trying to do something! *tries not to pull out her hair*

Well I'd say in the case of western politicians it's not in their interest to do so. After all, where are those lovely political donations going to come from if they start pissing off big corporations. It's just so short sighted.

Unfortunately I think the majority of Western humanity is of the opinion that "it won't happen in MY lifetime" and thus doesn't care. After all, we have idiots in this country who campaign against the creation of wind farms because the turbines would spoil their view. I have to wonder how opposed they'd be if they got their electricity rationed instead.

And if you're having a hating humanity day, why not try engineering a disease to wipe out the human race! It's surprisingly difficult...

Agreed. And I get so pissed off at those idiotic campaigners, we might lose a few tourists and they get their view spoilt. Big deal. I imagine the electricity will get rationed at some point.

And I'm now addicted to that game! I'm no good at it but I'm addicted. Thanks.:)

The hate? I understand where it's coming from. The amazing thing is that whilst European politicians talk a storm about green issues (though in reality bitch about the difficulties and stall implementing these policies) here in the US everyone is five years behind. Talk about composting and people will think you've gone mad. Suggest paying for plastic bags and they'll wonder if you're a no-goodnik. For goodness sake, Bush and co are still denying global warming!

Like you said, we could do the small things but what do they matter if the big things like carbon emissions from factories and industries are not drastically reduced? Without the big push, not many will be convinced this is as drastic as claimed.

My old supervisor told me, totally serious, that he doesn't give a damn about the future generations, he wants drilling for oil NOW. His reason? He's not going to have kids, so who cares if it poisons the environment? And this is a decent guy, despite believing it's all scare-mongering :(

Yeah, they hum and haw over here but nothing really gets done. I suppose I should be grateful that they even acknowledge the problem exists.

Exactly. Without forcing industries and industrialized countries to cut back on carbon emissions then there really is no point at all. Pointless treaties like Kyoto are nothing more than service.

I've known people who are like that. It's the old 'I've-got-mine-fuck-everybody-else' mentality. I think it's really sad. I also think that we will still be around when it all goes down, we'll be up in years, but we'll still see it.
