So season five of The Wire is being shown over here just now....

Okay, so McNulty is an arsehole and he is currently being a bigger arsehole by drinking on the job, screwing around more that usual and just generally being a dick.  Oh yeah, and he's tampering with crime scenes in the hope that the higher ups will grant more hours and resources so that he can get back on the Marlo case.

That's fine.  That's McNulty.  Screwing around with everybody and everything so that he can get his own way.  I can accept that.  But Lester being okay with it?

Lester?  The Morgan Freeman of Major Crimes? The old school policeman who does everything by the book?  Not so much.   Sure he was a bit of rogue in the day, but one would think that nearly a decade of being detailed to the pawn shop squad would have calmed him down a bit.  The hell?  It's quite the departure in characterization to say the least.

And I can't say I'm that impressed with the media subplot.  Gus Haynes seems to be nothing more than a Gary Stu, and the other characters are doing a lot of telling, but not a lot of showing.

It's quite a drop in quality really.  I'm a bit disappointed so far.  *sigh*
