Bloody hell.

Rocky Horror Picture Show Remake

Others on the way

Is it any wonder the majority of the films I watch these days are either oldies or foreign.  Creatively bankrupt bastards! Ugh.

This really isn't anything new. Hollywood hasn't had any original ideas since the 1980s and all these remakes that they're making now are just another way to continue to gain profits in lieu of any original ideas.

They're so out of original ideas these days that they're mooching off of Japan's original stories for profits and even Great Britain. Hell they even wanted to remake Billie Piper's new series Secret Diary of a Call Girl as well as John Simm's Life on Mars with American actors and an American setting, which is stupid. To begin with, the two shows are already in English, and second I don't believe that every story has to take place in America WITH American people in order for Americans to love and appreciate the story. Quite ALOT of them already like the foreign originals and snide at the idea of a Hollywood remake. It really wouldn't kill Hollywood executives to take a fucking hint.

Also if this is MTV we're talking about, we can already expect mass-murder on a cult classic like Rocky Horror. This IS after all the same company that created a hack re-make of Emily Bronte's ONLY literary masterpiece and turned it into an emo high school drama, with young sexy stars, aimed at teenyboppers.

Oh my fucking god. Words cannot even BEGIN to describe how heartbreaking it was to see Emily's ONLY masterpiece murdered for profits. I literally cried, that's how cringeworthy it was. If Emily were to come back from her grave today to see what was done to her masterpiece, I wouldn't have put it passed me that she would have murdered some people that day. I would have too.

Urgh.

Though I might see RHPS. If it gets good reviews.

I wonder if people'll go and throw stuff at the remake.

They'll probably still show the original, though. They fucking better.

You're right remakes are nothing new, they've been going on as far back as I can remember. Red Dwarf, One Foot in the Grave, Dear John, etc, etc.

It was eye-roll worthy back then, but it wasn't on scale as it is now and they weren't really going after classic films, or at least, very good flims/tv shows.

I wouldn't have that much of a problem with remakes if they were actually improving on the original material. Battlestar Galactica is a very good example of this - a rubbish tv show that had a few decent ideas and they expanded on them. The end result was a great tv show with a strong cast and a brilliant story arc.

99% of the time Hollywood isn't doing that. They take a great film, gut the themes, the characterization, shove a bunch of quick-cutting scenes, a few beautiful people and hey presto! They've got a smash hit on their hands. Teenagers with the attention spans of a goldfish eat it up.

The Stepford Wives, Halloween, The Wickerman, Ring, the list goes on and on and on. I was still annoyed about hearing that Michael Bay got his hands on Rosemary's Baby, and that Robocop was being remade, but re-doing RHPS? I am now utterly pissed off.

I realise that the original material will always be there...but you know.

I can't tell you how glad I am about not seeing MTV's production of Wuthering Heights. I can only imagine how godawful it must have been.

I don't see how they can improve on it, I really don't.

If they throw rotten eggs at it, then that'll be fine.

I imagine they will.

They couldn't improve on it, probably. Though the special effects would be bigger, the budget higher...but half the charm of RHPS is how low budget it is!

Still, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious. Maybe they'd give Brad (ASSHOLE) and Frankenfurter a more explicit sex scene!

WHAT!?!

Just. No. Just no. That's all I gotta say.

No they couldn't improve on it at all.

Maybe they'll do that, but again, that was half the charm of the old one.

The idea of the RHPS remake fills me with seething rage, because as cliché as it sounds, RHPS has had a major impact on my life. And you know it's going to be A Bad Thing when Richard O'Brien is unhappy about it. Seriously, new songs? WTF?

I suppose it's MARGINALLY better than taking all of the songs out and making it a "serious" movie. But awful all the same.

I know exactly how you feel. But you know what, unless the cast Johhny Depp or another actor that'll draw the fangirls in, this film is going to bomb - and we can forget about it.

It'll be just like it never existed.

That's the view I'm taking now, at least.

Well, apparently it's not even getting a cinema release, it's a straight-to-Sky-Movies special, so I doubt they'll have anyone that famous in the cast. But that also increases the chances that it will slide into merciful obscurity pretty quickly, which is good.
